Non-Immigrant Visa Fees
- There are a range of fees depending on the type of application and visa. All fees may be subject to change without notice and are non-refundable.
- U.S. consular fees worldwide are established in U.S. dollars (USD). For some common services we have listed the Australian dollar (AUD) equivalent. For a complete list of U.S. immigrant and nonimmigrant visa fees please refer to travel.state.gov.
- The Consulates General do not, under any circumstances, accept cash sent through the mail.
Application Fee (also known as the Machine Readable Visa Fee)
The application fee can be paid online or at Australia Post in advance of the non-immigrant visa interview. For payment instructions, please visit www.ustraveldocs.com/au/
Please note, the application fee amounts changed as of April 13, 2012. Please check this website regularly for updates.
Second MRV Fee Payment Process
Some applicants may require two different U.S. visas at the same time. For example, if you plan to study in the United States and then travel for an extended period after your program ends, you may need an F, M or J student visa AND a B1/B2 tourist visa, which requires the payment of a second application fee (called “MRV” fees). However, if you are applying for a C1/D crew visa and also require a B1/B2 tourist visa, you do not need to pay the second application fee. For additional information on whether you need a second visa, and if you need to pay a second fee, please see our FAQ page.
Applicants may only pay one application fee through their profile on ustraveldocs.com, so the second fee must be paid in person at a participating Australia Post outlet. To pay the second application fee you must download a deposit slip here, then pay the fee at one of the eligible locations. Please bring both payment receipts to your visa interview.

What is SEVIS and SEVP? What should you know about it?
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program is designed to help the Department of Homeland Security and State Department better monitor student and exchange visitors. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) maintains accurate and current information on nonimmigrant students (F and M visa), exchange visitors (J visa), and their dependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2). Those who wish to enter the United States either as a student or as an exchange visitor must complete Form I-20 or DS-2019, depending on the nature of the visit, and pay the fee.
