  1. Age is a big component for an Earthlike planet. Too old and cool, and the magnetic field is gone, thus allowing solar wind to wreak havok!

  2. Reflecting today on the fact that we're creeping towards 1000 discovered exoplanets. Only a few hundred billion more out there to discover..

  3. Water vapor in a planet's atmosphere = good for life. Carbon monoxide? Not as good. But still useful for science.

  4. A cool thing about evaporating planets is that they trail massive plumes of gas as they are ripped off by their star. Yuck, cosmic entrails!

  5. Fun fact from exoplanet scientist Stephen Kane: Did you know that some planets are so close to their star that they are evaporating?

  6. Cosmic St. Patty's day celebration! Kepler, Jupiter, the moon, and Pan-STARRS are running with Taurus the bull.

  7. Cosmic St. Patty's day celebration! Kepler, Jupiter, the moon, and Pan-STARRS are running with Taurus the bull.

  8. How do planet-hunters use pi? Fractional dip in light when a planet transits a star = (Pi * r_planet^2)/(Pi * r_star^2)

  9. PlanetQuest proudly celebrates and endorses the celebration of Pi Day. Feel free to get irrational.

  10. Congrats to ALMA and today – so much great science in store - we’re especially excited about imaging exoplanets

  11. Because planet-forming disks around brown dwarfs are low in mass, it is thought their planets are more likely to be terrestrial than gas

  12. Not a gas giant, not a star.Brown dwarfs are 13-80X mass of Jupiter, but too low in mass to fuse hydrogen as stars do

  13. One of the coolest discoveries has been that smaller planets seem to be the most common...good news for finding Earth-size exos.

  14. Kepler stares at 100,000 stars all day, every day. So far it's found over 100 exoplanets and nearly 3k exoplanet candidates.
