Warrior Transition Batallion Banner

Dear Warrior,

As commander of the Warrior Transition Battalion, I welcome you to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. My goal is to ensure you are treated with dignity and compassion during your assignment to a warrior transition unit. As a member of the WTB, your mission is simply to heal. You do this by following the Warrior Creed:

“I am a Warrior in Transition. My job is to heal as I transition back to duty or continue to serve the nation as a veteran in my community. This is not a status, but a mission. I will succeed in this mission because I am a Warrior and I am Army Strong.”

The mission of the WTB is to provide command and control for each Soldier who has suffered injury or illness while serving as a member of the U.S. Army, and to ensure that Warriors in Transition receive the appropriate medical care and administrative support for them to return to duty or transition to civilian life.

You are required to attend all formations and scheduled appointments. It is your responsibility to be on time for all appointments, including but not limited to: medical, nurse case manager, social work, administrative, legal, occupational therapy, and duty. All Soldiers will be given duty work based on their experience, skills and abilities, as well as any current profile. In addition, there will be many opportunities to increase your cognitive skills through education programs.

The process of recovery is sometimes tiring and confusing because of the medical aspect; the terminology is not something most of us use in our everyday lives. If at any time you do not understand what you have been told, ask for clarification. Remember, if the WTB cadre and staff are unaware of your concerns, it is impossible for us to address and /or resolve them. The best avenue to achieve this is to develop continuous two-way communication with the cadre and medical staff committed to this mission; this starts with your squad leader, platoon sergeant, nurse case manager, first sergeant and commander. You are encouraged to solve situations by using your chain of command; however, if you're dissatisfied with the resolution or if you feel your concern(s) should be elevated above that level, please feel free to use my open door policy.

Whether you served at home or abroad, I personally wish to thank you for volunteering your service and for the sacrifices made by you and your family to protect and defend our great nation in the Global War on Terrorism. Once again, welcome to the Warrior Transition Battalion. Use this time to heal, to regain your strength and your ability to function as a Soldier.
