Important Announcements and Information:

The Consular Section provides services to U.S. Citizens by appointment only Sunday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m and 11:00 a.m. The Consular Section is closed on U.S. and Jordanian holidays and the last Thursday of each month. To make an appointment, visit the Embassy Amman appointment system.

Security Notice

Visitors to the U.S. Embassy must pass through security checkpoints, including walk-through-metal-detectors (WTMD) similar to visiting an airport.  It may also be necessary to undergo additional screening, to include hand-held metal detectors and pat-down inspections.  Both male and female guards are present.  Prior to passing through the WTMD you must remove all metal items, including jewelry, coins, watches and belt buckles.  Electronic devices such as mobile phones will not be permitted into the Embassy.  Your visit to the Consular Section will be much easier and faster if you leave these items at home or in the car, so that you can proceed through security with the minimum disturbance.

Consular Services

The consular section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Jordan.  These services include new passport applications and renewals; adding visa pages to passports, reporting the birth of a U.S. citizen abroad (Consular Report of Birth Abroad), notarials, and affadavits.  For further information on U.S. Citizen Services, please select from the options on the menu at the left side of this page.

To be allowed entry into the consular section for routine (non-emergency) services, you must make an appointment online.  If you can conduct your business by mail or online, please do so.  Please note that if you do not have an appointment or if the particular service you need does not require a personal appearance at the Embassy, you will be instructed to contact us by email.

For emergency passport services, or for other issues not listed in the appointment system, please refer to our contact information listed below.

The hours for consular services are Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  We are closed for all Jordanian and U.S. public holidays, as well as the last working day of each month.
