U.S. Government Renovates Ghimpati Hospital and Iasi Children's Hospital

On November 15, Ambassador Gitenstein will participate in a ceremony dedicating USD 410, 000 for the renovation of the Ghimpati Emergency Hospital in Giurgiu County.  As a part of this EUCOM funded project, the hospital’s façade, windows, heating and electrical systems, roof, and doors will be refurbished.  This project will benefit 25,000 Romanian citizens living in communities in and around Ghimpati.

 

The Ambassador will travel to Iasi November 16 to announce a USD 300,000 renovation of the St. Mary’s Childrens’ hospital.  This project, which is also funded by EUCOM, will refurbish the walls, floors, windows and electrical system of the Hospital’s third floor.  This renovation will help to improve healthcare services for children living in this region of the country.  Colgate-Palmolive and the Scheherazade Foundation are also providing funding to renovate the Childrens’ Hospital.

 

As a result of these and other projects, the U.S. government has contributed USD 1,320,000 to improve health care services in Romania in 2012.  These projects include over USD 400,000 for a tele-medicine project with the Ministry of Health funded by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.  Other EUCOM sponsored projects have included:  the upgrade of the helicopter landing pad at the Emergency Hospital in Constanta, renovation of Cincu Clinic, renovation of the Nicolae Balcescu Clinic in Constanta County, renovation of a hospital wing in Harsova, funding for the Romanian Women’s Health Initiative, and a tuberculosis awareness program.
