History

The Colorado Air National Guard has a proud history that can be traced back to June 27, 1923 when the 120th Aero Observation Squadron was mustered into service as part of the Colorado Army National Guard. (More)

The Colorado Air National Guard was officially recognized on June 30, 1946 -- a year ahead of the United States Air Force!

Because of this extensive 150-year history, the Colorado Air Guard has been the"first" to accomplish several things in the National Guard and the Air Force!

Citizen Soldier Heritage

The history of the Air National Guard is a story of people like yourself. In 1636, a group of shopkeepers, fisherman and farmers first took up defense of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. And throughout the history of America, their legacy has grown into the modern fighting force that we have become today.

Our members are still farmers, shopkeepers, as well as other business professionals, computer specialists and stay-at-home moms and dads. We are woven from the fabric of every American community across this great land with the common goal of keeping our freedom and way of life secure from those who would threaten it. The Air National Guard is an organization that cares through service to our local community, our state, our nation and our global community.
