Ground-Water Information and Data

An artesian (flowing) well in Georgia.

The U.S. Geological Survey collects ground-water level data at about 20,000 wells nationwide, 74 in Puerto Rico. The USGS provides long-term, accurate, and unbiased information that meets the needs of many diverse users. The USGS collects ground-water data needed by Federal, State, and local agencies for planning and operating water-resources projects and regulatory programs.

The Puerto Rico ground-water network consists of 74 well sites at which water levels are measured. Twenty four (24) sites are equipped with state of the art data loggers which record the water level at 30 minute intervals and fifty (50) sites are visited once per month for a tape-down water level measurement. The latter consist primarily of wells which do not show any significant water level change as a result of rainfall-recharge events (high transmissive aquifers) or wells which are used as part of the observation network, yet are in active use.

The links below allow you to find information and data about Puerto Rico's ground-water resources.
