UPCOMING EVENT: On Sunday, 33 years will have passed since the largest non-nuclear explosion since World War II took the lives of 241 Marines and service member...s. That day was the largest single-day loss of life of Marines since the Battle of Iwo Jima and is called by some the first attack in the current War on Terror. It was also the deadliest attack on Americans prior to Sept. 11.

A special ceremony will be held Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Beirut Memorial in the Lejeune Memorial Gardens on base. The ceremony will honor the fallen service members and survivors who served in Lebanon from 1958 to 1984 and in Grenada. Major General W. Lee Miller, Jr., the II Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general, will deliver the Beirut Memorial observance address.

For those who are unable to attend, a live feed from the ceremony will be webcast at the following address: https://www.dvidshub.net/webcast/9850.

"Today I got to see where I came from."
----------------------------------------------------

"I joined the Marine Corps to get away from home," said Cpl. Domini...ck Pierre, a motor transport operator with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Miami, Florida, native. "I had a part time job and was going to school but I felt like I was going to stay there and not do anything with my life, really," he said. "I didn't want to be comfortable."

Joining the Corps brought Pierre back to Haiti, where he was born in 1994. He's been assisting in delivery of food and supplies to government and non-government organizations and Haitians on the ground after Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 storm, slammed Haiti earlier in October. "I just feel like any chance I have to help out the place where I came from, I'm there," he said.

Pierre is one of hundreds of Marines and sailors with the 24th MEU assisting in humanitarian aid/disaster relief operations under Joint Task Force Matthew.

JTF Matthew has delivered over 253 metric tons of food, water and supplies and has flown 277 hours in support of aid efforts across Haiti.

  • Hey me and my buddy were deployed in the 22ed and 26th MEU. In 2013 and 2014 was that apart of the ll MEF ?
  • G’day folks, I am trying to find out information about my late uncl...e Frank Michael O’Brian who served in the USMC. He was born November 15th 1936 he died 4th April 2012 aged 76. He left Ireland in the 1960’s to live and work in USA. My family heard in the late 1980’s that uncle Frank served with the USMC. Uncle Frank returned to live back in Ireland in 2002 and unfortunately he fell on hard times, it was not until his death in 2012 that our family found out that he served with the USMC. Our family was totally shocked to find out that the US ambassador to Ireland and 6 US Marines came out to the cemetery where he was buried and installed a headstone on his grave and carried out a funeral service for him Unfortunately at the time, we were not notified that Frank had died due to most of our family who are living in Australia. As a former Australian soldier I was totally unaware about Uncle Franks US military background. I have just recently visited Uncle Frank’s grave in Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, Ireland two weeks ago and my family and I are now wondering how we can find out more information about Franks service in the USMC and if any of his friends are still alive. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated, regards Paul McTernan See More
