Further Details
Stabilize the rock slopes of two (2) sites that experienced recent rock fall events along the northbound GWMP at the exit of Spout Run Parkway.
- Site #1 – This site is located along the left side of the northbound lane of GWMP just south of Spout Run Parkway Exit. In early February 2011, this site experienced a number of rockfall events. Fortunately, the fallen rocks did not reach the roadway and no road closure was implemented. This site has experienced major rock failures in the past.
- Site #2 – This site is located along the left side of the northbound lane of GWMP just north of Spout Run Parkway exit. As a result of the 5.9 magnitude earthquake event on August 23, 2011, a boulder fell from the cut slope on the parkway causing traffic disturbance and road closure.
Design/Construction Schedule:
Construction began on temporary safety measures on November 7, 2011, and was completed by January 15, 2012. Phase 2 work to stabilize the slopes was completed on December 3, 2012.
