Room 2237 of the Rayburn House Office Building
When the U.S. and its allies entered Afghanistan in 2001, one of the stated goals of the mission was to ensure the protection of human rights, including women’s rights. As Afghanistan assumes greater security responsibility and pursues political reconciliation with the Taliban, the hard-won human rights gains women have achieved in the past decade must not be traded away or compromised. There can be no just or sustainable peace without the guaranteed protection of human rights, including women’s human rights.
HASINA SAFI, Executive Director, the Afghanistan Women’s Education Centre (AWEC) and Executive Board Member, Afghan Women’s Network.

MAHBOUBA SERAJ, Founder and Director, Organization for Research in Peace and Solidarity and Executive Board Member, Afghan Women’s Network.
