Non-Immigrant Visas

Non Immigrant Visa Application Forms:

All visa applicants must complete the online Non-immigrant Visa Application form (DS-160).You must complete and submit the DS-160 online, print out the confirmation page, and bring it with you to your scheduled interview.

Online Interview Appointment Request:
Non-immigrant visas are required for Afghan travelers who wish to visit the United States temporarily for tourism, business, training, studies, or cultural exchanges. Non-immigrant visa applicants are required to schedule an appointment for an interview with a U.S. Consular Officer.

A U.S. Consular Officer will determine, through the information you provide in your application, and your interview, if you qualify to receive a visa to the United States.

Requests for interviews will not be accepted by phone or by email.

There’s now a whole new web site that offers information about exchange visitor visas.  These programs allow Afghan citizens and others to study, do research, and connect with the United States. Find out more at: http://j1visa.state.gov/

Important Note!

Effective December 1st, 2011, to better serve our clients who live in Afghanistan, the following rules will apply:

Only Afghan citizens and any other applicants who reside in Afghanistan (as shown by an Afghan passport or valid residence visa) may use any open appointment.   However, anyone who does not live in Afghanistan can book appointments in emergency circumstances only and these will be reviewed in a case by case basis.  Please contact KabulNIV@state.gov if you have an emergency.

Appointments made using fictitious information will be deleted.

Appointments that do not follow this policy will be deleted and the applicant will be turned away.  Please make sure to follow the above policy carefully.

Appointment Fee:
The application fee for a regular non-immigrant visa is 160 U.S.
dollars. You must bring $160 in cash (U.S. Dollars only) to your
interview. You will pay the fee to the Consular cashier inside the
Embassy immediately prior to your interview. The fee is non-refundable.
There are no other fees associated with visa issuance for Afghans
applying for visas in Kabul. If anyone asks you to pay a fee other than
the application fee noted above, please let the officer who interviews
you know about this.

A non-immigrant is a person who can overcome the presumption that they intend to immigrate. This means it is the responsibility of Non-immigrant Visa applicants to prove to the Consular Officer that they do not intend to immigrate.  Failure to overcome this legal presumption will result in a denial of your request for a visa.
