Average Expenditures per Person for the Five Most Costly Medical Conditions (1996 vs. 2006)

The chart below shows the average expenditure for each person who had one of the 5 mostly costly medical conditions. It shows the average expenditure per person for each condition in both 1996 and in 2006 in constant dollars, in order to take inflation into account. In 2006, the average expenditure for people with a mental disorder was just under $1600. This is slightly lower (in constant dollars) than the average expenditure per person in 1996.
