The Office of the Administrative Assistant (OAA) to the Secretary of the Army employs civilians in a wide variety of positions from recreation specialists to bus drivers to historians to human resource specialists.

Series and grade refers to the Federal government’s system for categorizing and defining jobs. If you have never worked in the Federal government, you do not have to enter a series or grade on your resume for previous, non-government jobs. Upon application, however, you may be prompted to pick the highest grade you desire or are eligible for.

Federal Wage System (FWS)

The Federal Wage System (FWS) is a pay-setting system that covers Federal appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund blue-collar employees who are paid by the hour. The system's goal is to make sure that Federal trade, craft, and laboring employees within a local wage area who perform the same duties receive the same rate of pay. Successful labor-management partnership is the hallmark of the FWS, with labor organizations involved in all phases of administering the pay system.

Under this pay system –

• Your pay will be the same as the pay of other Federal jobs like yours in your wage area
• Your pay will be in line with pay for private sector jobs like yours in your wage area

Special pay plans cover certain employees in special circumstances. The Office of Personnel Management authorizes special pay plans when unusual labor market conditions seriously handicap agencies in recruiting and retaining qualified employees.

Non-Appropriated Funded (NAF)

Non-Appropriated Funded (NAF) positions are found in a wide variety of areas that support our Soldiers, their families and our civilian employees. NAF offers positions in Child Development, Food and Beverage Management (Clubs), Golf and Bowling, Recreation, Hotels and Billeting, clerical and administrative to name a few. Jobs are filled through two systems: Career Referral Program and Installation Job Vacancy System.
