Places to See and Interesting Facts:
Van Buren County is well-known around the state for its historic tourist attractions. Towns such as Keosauqua, Bentonsport, and Bonaparte have well-preserved historic districts and host many events throughout the year. Keosauqua is home to the oldest continually operating courthouse in Iowa. Additionally, Keosauqua is also the site of the Honey War of 1839, the most violent territorial dispute fought between the militias of Iowa and Missouri.
