AIHEC is celebrating 40 years as the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation's Tribal Colleges and Universities.

American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC)

AIHEC is celebrating 40 years as the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation’s 37 Tribal Colleges and Universities—a unique community of tribally- and federally-chartered institutions working to strengthen tribal nations and make a lasting difference in the lives of American Indians and Alaska Natives. Since 1972, AIHEC serves its network of member institutions through public policy, advocacy, research, and program initiatives to ensure strong tribal sovereignty through excellence in American Indian higher education.

Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs)

TCUs were created in response to the higher education needs of American Indians and generally serve geographically isolated populations that have no other means accessing education beyond the high school level. TCUs have become increasingly important to educational opportunity for native American students and are unique institutions that combine personal attention with cultural relevance to encourage American Indians—especially those living on reservations—to overcome the barriers they face to higher education.
