Chief Young was born in 1973 and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  She enlisted in the US Army in 1993 and completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and became a Finance Specialist in the US Army Reserve.  Later that year, she completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and became a Paralegal Specialist.

 

Her initial assignment after graduation from the Legal Specialist Course at Fort Jackson, was as a Legal Specialist with the Northern Law Center, SHAPE, Belgium.

 

Her other enlisted assignments include: Court Reporter, Fort Carson, Colorado; and Court Reporter, 1st Infantry Division, Wurzburg, Germany.

 

In 1999, she was selected to become a Legal Administrator in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. Since her appointment and commissioning, she has served in a variety of assignments including: Legal Administrator, 1st Infantry Division, Wurzburg, Germany; Legal Administrator, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Legal Administrator, Office of Military Commissions; Legal Administrator, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; Legal Administrator, Multi-National Force/United States Forces – Iraq; Director of Operations, Office of the Dean, The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School.       

 

In July of 2011, Chief Young assumed duties as the Chief Warrant Officer of The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, Charlottesville, Virginia.

 

Chief Young has completed the Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course, Warrant Officer Staff Course, Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Warrant Officer Basic Course; and the Legal Administrator Course. 

 

Chief Young's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal. Other decorations include the Overseas Service Ribbon (3), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (2), the Army Service Ribbon and the Army Good Conduct Medal (2).
