Daily Senate Schedule for Wednesday, February 13, 2013

The Senate stood in recess at 4:00 p.m. 

At 8:20 p.m., Senators should gather in the Senate Chamber in order for the Senate to proceed as a body to the Hall of the House of Representatives at 8:30 p.m.

Following the State of the Union Address, the Senate will stand in adjournment until        10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13.

Following the Leaders’ remarks, the Senate will be in Morning Business, with Senators permitted to speak up to 10 minutes each.  The first 30 minutes will be under Republican control and the second 30 minutes under Majority control. 

Roll call VOTES are possible on Wednesday.


Business Conducted Tuesday, February 12, 2013

During Tuesday’s session of the Senate, five roll call votes were conducted.

Agreed to, 93-5:  Leahy amendment #21, as modified, to S. 47, the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization bill.  The amendment adds an additional title – Trafficking Victims Protection – to the bill, and is nearly identical to legislation from last Congress, S. 1301, The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2011;

Agreed to, 100-0:  Portman amendment #10 to S. 47.  The amendment includes victims of sex-trafficking to the communities served under section 302 of the bill;

Not Agreed to, 46-53:  Coburn amendment #15 to S. 47.  The amendment requires the Department of Justice to: identify every program it administers; identify duplicative programs throughout the federal government; and consolidate duplicative programs.  It also allows up to 75 percent of any savings achieved by this consolidation to be allocated towards resolving rape kit backlogs and reducing the deficit;

Not Agreed to, 43-57:  Coburn amendment #16 to S. 47.  The amendment increases from 5 percent to 20 percent the penalties VAWA grant recipients would have to pay for not providing rape-offender testing for HIV/AIDS.  It also expands the required testing to encompass all sexually-transmitted diseases for which a diagnostic test exists and requires the Department of Justice to report annually on grantee compliance with such testing; and

Passed, 78-22:  S. 47, as amended, the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization bill

Murkowski amendment #11, which contains a technical consolidation of sections 905 and 910 with respect to Alaskan Indian tribes.
