U.S. Passports

Passport applications are accepted at any U.S. Consulate, U.S. Consular Agency, and at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.  All passport services require an appointment.  The American Citizens Services Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City assists U.S. citizens with the following passport services:

Before you start, please note information on the following:

New passports are delivered by a messenger service to addresses within Mexico as indicated on the application for a nominal charge payable upon delivery.  Passports are generally delivered within 3 weeks of the time of application, though this can vary depending on the particular case.

Appointments

Appointments are required for all passport services. You must bring your completed passport application form and other required documents to your appointment.  The documents required depend on if it is a passport for a minor, first time adult application, or an adult passport renewal.  You must arrive at the Embassy 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to proceed through the Embassy’s security processes.  If traveling to the U.S. Embassy is not an option, visit this page for a list of Consulates and Consular Agencies that are nearest to the states of Chiapas and Tabasco.

American citizens who have lost their passport and have emergency travel needs may appear at the Embassy any business day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. without an appointment.  Applicants requesting an emergency passport will be required to provide proof of immediate travel plans.  Otherwise, an appointment is needed for all non-emergency passport applications.
