On October 10, 2012, Ambassador Fulton and the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, together with the Confederation of Danish Industries (DI) and AmCham Denmark held a Green Partnerships for Growth (GPG) conference hosted by DONG Energy. The event focused on energy efficient solutions and emphasized the new EU Directive on Energy Efficiency and how private companies can help governments to meet ambitious goals set forward by the European Union. It also focused on the actions of the Obama administration and President Obama's ambition to reduce energy use in the U.S. Federal government, as well as initiatives underway in several states.

The GPG initiative was originally launched by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at a joint event at Christianborg Palace on May 31, 2012. The overall focus of Green Partnerships for Growth is to identify opportunities for private companies and governments to work together in addressing current and future needs for innovative and sustainable solutions.GPG builds on two previous Green Partnerships events and will continue to create bridges and enhance cooperation between American and Danish cleantech companies.
