On November 7, 2012, Ambassador Fulton and the U.S. Embassy Copenhagen hosted an Election Breakfast at the Marriott Hotel. Over 500 people participated, including a number of ministers, MPs, leaders from business and NGOs and other key contacts from the Embassy network. The full political spectrum was represented and there was general sentiment among the politicians that President Obama's reelection is good for the U.S. as well as U.S.-Danish relations. However, everyone also expressed the opinion that no matter who had become President, the relationship will remain strong.
There was a happy and relaxed atmosphere, and both the election and U.S. democracy were celebrated. Tamra Rosanes initiated celebrations by playing "America the Beautiful." Ambassador Fulton followed with remarks, congratulating President Obama on winning and noting that the U.S.-Danish relationship will grow ever stronger in the next four years. She also expressed excitement over the overwhelming interest Danes have in the U.S. election, both in the Media and in the general public. The latter she has experienced firsthand in the days leading up to the election.
In the weeks leading up to hosting the Election Breakfast, Ambassador Fulton and Embassy staff had participated in and spoken at over 40 election related events all over Denmark. in the 24 hours leading up to the election Ambassador Fulton was at election events at the University of Copenhagen, TV2, and Politiken, delivering remarks and giving numerous interviews to various national news outlets.
