NESA UGRAD¹  Scholarship Opportunity

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for one-year of undergraduate study at a U.S. college or university.

This Global Undergraduate Exchange Program offers emerging student leaders scholarships for undergraduate, non-degree studies at accredited U.S. colleges and universities from August 2013 until May 2014.

Participant Eligibility

NESA UGRAD is a merit-based competition.  Students from diverse backgrounds and/or under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a desire to participate in community service and leadership activities. Students must return to their home country after completion of the program. Please note that students in the humanities, engineering, biology, mathematics, etc are encouraged to apply as these are increasingly priority fields
 
Applicants must be:

• Mozambican citizens, nationals or permanent residents qualified to hold a valid passport;

• Between the ages of 18-25;

• Able to begin the academic exchange program in the United States in August 2013;

• Proficient in written and spoken English.

• The recommended minimum TOEFL score is 500 (paper based) or 60 (internet based) for placement purposes. The recommended minimum score for the IELTS is 5.0.

• Completing his/her final year of secondary school or enrolled in first-, second-, third-, fourth-year full-time undergraduate study at the time of application at a registered academic institution in his/her country and is in good academic standing.

• Fourth-year students must have an additional term of study to complete at their home institution upon completion of the NESA UGRAD program.

3) Personal Statement (450 word minimum, 2 page maximum): Please explain your motivation for wanting to study in the United States, how you think the experience will prepare you to achieve your future goals, and why you are qualified for the exchange describing your leadership, service, cross-cultural and/or academic experiences. (See guidance on the Supplemental Form #8).

4) Two letters of recommendation – include one from your current college or university-- MUST BE TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH (See link)

5) Official transcripts- MUST BE TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH

6) TOEFL score (IELTS also accepted)
