United States Delivery of Medical Supplies to Gaza

November 28, 2012

With the support and facilitation of the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health and the Israeli Coordinator for Government Assistance in the Territories (COGAT), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing medical supplies to help 90,000 people in need in Gaza. Health kits containing essential medicines and medical supplies were airlifted by USAID to Israel, where they were then transferred into Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing and deployed to key locations for immediate use by vetted, non-governmental health providers and medical personnel.

These medical supplies are being provided in addition to longer-term U.S. assistance to the Palestinian people, which for the West Bank and Gaza in fiscal year 2011 totaled $495 million, of which approximately $33 million is allocated for assistance to Palestinians in Gaza on an ongoing basis.
