Immigrant Visa Processing

The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce that as part of its effort to ensure that visa applicants for tourist, business, student, and other non-immigrant visas (NIV) will continue to be able to process their visa applications on a timely basis, the Embassy is transferring its small Immigrant Visa (IV) operation to the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, Guyana effective July 1, 2012.  Immigrant visas are intended for applicants who wish to move permanently to the United States..

The decision to transfer the IV operation to Guyana was made largely in response to Suriname’s very robust and rapidly increasing demand for non-immigrant visas. The U.S. Embassy in Georgetown is well-equipped to absorb the additional immigrant visa volume with little or no impact on its daily operations, allowing U.S. Embassy Paramaribo to dedicate more time and resources to its rapidly growing number of NIV applicants.

The U.S. Embassy is committed to helping to facilitate travel between our two countries and to keeping visa application delays to a minimum.  The transfer of Embassy Suriname’s IV operation to Embassy Georgetown will help us to continue to achieve this goal.
