The Consulate General in Kolkata provides consular services for the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura and Assam

The U.S. Consulate General, Kolkata processes applications for both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas to the United States.

Nonimmigrant visas are for people visiting the U.S. temporarily for tourism, business, education, medical treatment, or petition-based employment. The type of visa required depends on your purpose of travel.

Immigrant visas are for applicants planning to permanently relocate to the United States.

The U.S. Embassy, New Delhi serves American citizens in the Indian states of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the country of Bhutan. 

The Consulate General in Chennai provides consular services for the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.  

The Consulate General in Hyderabad provides consular services for the states of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. 

The Consulate General in Mumbai provides consular services for the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

DS-160 Issue

The Department of State deployed an updated version of the DS-160 Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application on Saturday, June 25, 2011 with additional questions and improved translations in some languages.  We understand some individuals are having difficulty retrieving applications started before the transition to the updated form and are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. We encourage you to be sure to record your Application ID number, which is required to retrieve your application, to save your application frequently, and to review all sections of the form to make sure every question is answered.

The US Consulate, Kolkata will no longer accept telephone calls from the public, between 3:00 to 4:00 pm, with nonimmigrant visa inquiries.   • Interview Waiver Program
    Announcing the expansion of the Interview Waiver Program!  Beginning on November 19, 2012, children up to age 14, students returning to the same school and same program, and temporary workers on H1-B and Individual L1-A or L1-B visas may be eligible for the Interview Waiver Program.  Details can be found at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-visarenew.asp
  • Blanket L Visa processing to move to the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai on December 1, 2011.

    The U.S. Consulate General in Chennai will become the sole acceptance center in India for all applications for intra-company transfers under the blanket L category as of December 1, 2011.  The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and U.S. Consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad will no longer accept or process applications for this visa category.  The blanket L category includes specialized knowledge professionals, executives and managers.

    All other visa processing procedures remain unchanged.

    Please note that spouse and children visas (L2) and individual L visas (L1B and L1A individuals) may be processed at all posts in India—Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

    Please note that this is strictly an administrative change.  It is not a change in the law or policy of visas for Indian companies.
