USAID/Guatemala's Democracy and Governance programs work towards improving accountability so that citizens have more opportunities to participate in government.
USAID's Democracy and Governance program in Guatemala works in close collaboration with the Government of Guatemala, civil society organizations, and implementing partners to:
- Ensure accountability of government;
- Increase responsiveness by local governments to citizens' needs;
- Increase opportunities for citizen participation in and oversight of government decision-making;
- Improve accountability and efficiency of judicial processes;
- Enhance effectiveness of crime prevention programs;
- Increase use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms; and
- Improve prosecution of corruption cases.
