On January 19, the American Corner in Pemba celebrated the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by hosting 33 English language college students from the Dar es Salaam College of Hotel and Business Studies. In his welcoming remarks, American Corner Coordinator Mohammed Said briefed visitors on services, opportunities and resources available at the center. He also discussed the life of Dr. King, his extraordinary and exceptional impact on American history, and the global effect of his work to promote civil rights through nonviolent means. The program included a screening of the film "Roads to Memphis: the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.," which was followed by a discussion session where Tanzanian youth discussed their views on Dr. King's legacy as well as their own vision to contribute towards their communities.
