Visa Waiver Program
The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows those holding passports issued by certain countries to enter the United States without a visa for business, tourism, or transit under certain conditions. The number of countries under the VWP has increased over the years to 37 with Taiwan joining the program as of November 1, 2012.
Designated countries
The 37 designated countries are: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan (as of November 1, 2012) and the United Kingdom.
Nationals of the countries listed above can travel to the United States without a visa for tourist and business travel of 90 days or less provided they possess a valid machine readable or e-passport with an electronic chip.
VWP participants must also register on-line through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). Enrollment in ESTA is mandatory for all VWP participants effective January 12, 2009. If you have a visa to visit the USA, or a Canadian passport, ESTA requirements do not apply.
