National Export Initiative

"We need to export more of our goods. Because the more products we make and sell to other countries, the more jobs we support right here in America. So tonight, we set a new goal: We will double our exports over the next five years, an increase that will support two million jobs in America. To help meet this goal, we're launching a National Export Initiative that will help farmers and small businesses increase their exports, and reform export controls consistent with national security."
- President Barack Obama, State of the Union Address, 27 January 2010

The U.S. and Canada enjoy an economic partnership unique in the world. The two nations share the world's largest and most comprehensive trading relationship, which supports millions of jobs in each country. Since the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1994, trade between the United States and Canada has increased 265%. With the world's longest undefended border, common business practices, and similar cultural touchstones, the two countries each serve as attractive trade destinations for new-to-export and new-to-market companies.
