Non-immigrant visas (NIV)
General Information
Non-immigrant visas (NIVs) are issued to people visiting the United States for work, pleasure, studying, or transit. Generally, visa applicants must apply for a visa in the consular district in which they legally reside. At the consulate in Hamilton, applications are normally only accepted from legal residents of Bermuda.
Visas are a privilege, not a right. In order to be granted a non-immigrant visa, applicants must overcome the presumption in Section 214b of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) that all visa applicants are intending immigrants. You can overcome this presumption by providing evidence that you have strong ties to a residence abroad that you have no intention of abandoning. Non-immigrant visa applicants are by appointment only.
Pick-up Information
If you need to pick up passports containing approved visas, these are available at the guard building at the front of the consulate, Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. - 12 p.m. When picking up passports with approved visas, you must present the receipt, a piece of valid photo identification and sign for the passport. There is no public parking allowed at the consulate, this includes motorbikes. Our visitors are allowed to park at the parking lot located to the west of the consulate on Middle Road in Devonshire. Please note, the consulate is closed on all official Bermuda and U.S. holidays.
