DHS Document Processing

U.S. Department of Homeland Security document processing is available to residents of Ontario in Toronto. Services involving a document starting with I- or G- are subject to the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), not the Department of State at the consulate. For details on DHS processing please see the DHS website. Please use this mail address: U.S. Consulate Toronto, CONS/IIV, 360 University Avenue, Toronto M5G 1S4 ON, Canada.

Immigrant petitions (I-130) for relatives of U.S. citizens: To sponsor a relative for immigration to the U.S. please consult the immigrant petition page on our website.

Reentry Permit (I-327): We mail the I-327 to the bearer if you mail to us:

  • Stamped, self addressed Canada Post express mailer,
  • Clear photocopy of the bearer's identity document, signed and dated by the bearer.

Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Residence (LPR) Status (I-407): Please download I-407 [PDF 624Kb] (and complete only those items that are highlighted in yellow). You may submit via mail or come in person to abandon your LPR status. To mail in, include your signed I-407 form, your I-551 (Green Card), and a cover letter explaining your intent to abandon your LPR status. Mail all of these items to Visa Unit, U.S. Consulate General Toronto, 360 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M5G 1S4. If abandoning in person, please come to 225 Simcoe Street, Toronto, with all family members who wish to abandon LPR status, Monday-Friday, 830-11 am, holidays excluded. Please be prepared for a 2 or more hour wait. Bring for each person:

  • Completed I-407,
  • Your Alien Registration Receipt Card (I-551 or "Green Card"), if available. If not in your possession then a signed, dated statement explaining its loss.

We will return a copy of your completed I-407 to you as your receipt. Please show this I-407 receipt to U.S. DHS immigration inspectors when you travel to the U.S. and mail a copy to the U.S. tax authorities (www.irs.gov). Once we accept your completed I-407 you revert to nonimmigrant status. Abandoning your LPR status does not prevent you from immigrating to the U.S. in the future and may not relieve you of U.S. tax obligations. If you wish to immigrate to the U.S. in the future you must qualify for a new immigrant visa from the beginning.

Arrival/Departure Record (I-94 white or I-94W green): If you left the U.S. with your I-94 white or I-94W green still in your passport your departure is unrecorded. If you do not show a timely departure from the U.S., DHS may conclude that you are still in the U.S. unlawfully. If so, your visa may be cancelled and your future entry into the U.S. may be barred. For further details on U.S. entry requirements please consult the CBP website. To surrender your I-94 please mail these items to: ACS-CBP, 1084 South Laurel Rd., London KY 40744 USA:
