Winter Weather is Upon Us!

For our returning families our weather policy has not changed. However, as the winter weather approaches it is always good to review so that we can all be prepared.

Morning Routines

Our morning routines will continue with students riding the bus and arriving before 7:55 being able to enter the building and go directly to the old MPR for a time of silent reading. Students arriving by bus after 7:55 will remain outside and line-up. The doors open at 8:05 for all students to enter. Students walking should not arrive before 8:00. By arriving just before the doors open, students have limited time outside to 10 minutes or less. Students will be able to enter the building prior to 8:05 when the weather temperature is below 16 degrees Fahrenheit. In the event of rain, students will enter the building upon arrival to ensure they stay dry.

Recess

Students will also participate in recess when the weather is 16 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Dress to be outside. Please ensure that your child comes to school prepared to be outside for recess and other school activities. Parents are encouraged to monitor their children's clothing selections to make sure they are prepared for colder temperatures and are appropriately dressed for outdoor recess. Each year we collect a large selection of lost clothing that we cannot match up with children. Please label your children's winter clothes so if they misplace them we can get them returned.
(Due to health concerns, we cannot loan winter clothing for recess.)

Medication

Parents, please remember that students may not have on their possession prescription or over the counter medication. Please utilize our school nurse to assist in administering medication during the school day to children.

Free and Reduced Lunch

Parents who have students on the Free and Reduced Lunch Lists: You must reapply each School Year to retain eligibility.

If you were on the Free and Reduced lunch List last year your eligibility carries over for 30 days into the new school year. After the 30 days are over you will be returned to Full Pay Lunch Prices unless you have reapplied and been approved for Free and Reduced Lunches. The cutoff date this year is Sept. 30th.  If you do qualify for Free or Reduced lunch it is required that you have a lunch account through Aafes.

View DoDEA's School Report Cards
The DoDEA's School Report Cards (SRCs) are very similar to those required by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. The SRCs list school contact information, school improvement goals, a school's student demographic profile, and academic indicators such as the SAT and Terra Nova scores.

DoDEA, in alignment with the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, is committed to easing the challenges of military families moving between duty stations. For families transitioning to a new duty station and enrolling in DoDEA schools for the first time, there is now a provision, allowing a 30-calendar day grace period for parents/students to meet immunization requirements after school enrollment. The intent of this provision is to avoid any interruption in the transferring student’s education. The health and the welfare of all students is a top priority for DoDEA. The Department of Defense sets immunization requirements for DoDEA schools based on recommendations from the Center of Disease Control. Compliance with immunization requirements greatly reduces the risk of public health issues. School nurses and local military medical treatment facilities stand ready to assist parents in meeting these requirements promptly.
