The key components of the SciDAC program are SciDAC Institutes and Scientific Computation Application Partnerships. While the Institutes form the foundation for efforts by applied mathematicians and computer scientists to systematically address technical challenges that are inherent to the scale of new architectures and common across a wide range of science applications, the Partnerships enable scientists to conduct complex scientific and engineering computations at a level of fidelity needed to simulate real-world conditions in targeted science application projects. In 2011, five new scientific computation application partnership funding opportunity announcements were issued by ASCR and its partnering Office of Science core programs: Basic Energy Sciences, Biological and Environmental Research, Fusion Energy Sciences, High Energy Physics and Nuclear Physics. In 2011-2012, 18 scientific computation application partnership projects were awarded with a funding of up to $27M/year. These new partnerships will:
