Camp ECO-Action 2013 is a national environmental camp in Togo with goals to combat environmental degradation through education, inspire and empower youth to take environmental action through practical hands on activities, and improve food security through the teaching of technical agricultural skills and income generation activities. Last year's camp was an overwhelming success; 58 boys and girls arrived at camp ignorant of all but the most basic definition of the environment, but post-camp follow-up visits revealed that the participants started 22 family gardens, planted over 2500 moringa, fruit, and nitrogen fixing trees, constructed 27 fuel efficient wood cook stoves, educated 1250 people about the dangers of pollution, made 18 compost piles, began 5 animal husbandry projects, instructed 75 farmers on the fabrication of natural insecticides, informed 11 communities about the nutritional benefits of moringa, and began educating their peers through 8 new school environmental clubs.

Camp ECO-Action 2013 will seek to continue this success by educating 60 more motivated students, emphasizing practical and relevant activities that the participants can easily replicate and giving them the skills and confidence to become leaders in environmental protection. The Togolese NGO that was fundamental to last year's success will again contribute significant time and resources, plan and prepare all camp meals, outfit the campsite with demonstrations, and coordinate media relations. We are requesting PCPP funds to help offset transportation costs, venue rental fees, and other logistical costs associated with a national camp.
