Teachers and parents in this rural Eastern Botswana village created the idea of the project as a way of achieving a goal set forth by the Ministry of Education in hopes to better the lives of the community's children. Many children who attend the primary school live difficult lives and have adult-like responsibilities yet continue to thrive. Compared to other schools within the region, this school continues to excel on examination scores. Since the nearly 500 students spend a large majority of their time on school grounds, teachers and parents would like to make the environment more pleasant. With this project, they would award their children with a safe space to enjoy themselves, out of the scorching sun. There are no other comparable venues in the village.

Already, the community has arranged the collection and installment of the recreational park equipment. They have cleared the land, prepared the site, and assisted in the construction of its boundaries as well as overseeing the construction of the playground itself. In reference to the shade, they will provide an experienced builder to assemble the shade netting and transport all materials to the village such as gum poles, netting, and concrete.

The plan is that through the use of the newly installed playground equipment - with the shading for which this grant would provide funding, the children will be able to exert energy in a healthier environment. Without the shade netting, the equipment will likely not be utilized.
