This grant will fund the furnishing and purchasing of much needed books for the primary school library in a tiny village in Tanzania. The primary objectives of this project are to increase the literacy rate of the students enrolled at the school and the number of students who pass the quartely exams. The secondary objectives include giving youth and adults access to resources, such as sustainable agriculture, improved livestock techniques, small business information and environmental education, that will improve their livelihoods. The community is contributing labor and transport costs, money for the windows and doors and maintence on the room that was originally built seven years ago. There was some damage to the roof and walls that will need to be repaired.

This project will have a long lasting, invaluable impact on this community for years to come. They are motivated individuals who are invested in the future of their children and with a little help can sustain this wonderful resource indefinitely. This is an exciting opportunity to provide those with only the clothes on their backs with books filled with bright pictures and words that have the power to transport the first time reader on a journey without end. These children need the chance to see the world beyond this one small village. Most children aren't able to leave because their parents have no money for a taxi or bus. Their entire universe is here in the village, which is quite beautiful with sweeping vistas and rolling hills, but so very limited. They deserve to live in the world with its diversity and endless discoveries, not just buildings with bare walls.
