Map of PERU

Camp ALMA is a three-day leadership camp for the most deserving adolescent girls from rural and semi-rural communities in northern Peru. The theme of this year's camp is "Peace of Mind, Body, and Environment".

Camp participants (ages 13-18) will gain new skills and knowledge in areas such as career planning, choosing an ideal partner, reproductive biology and health, prevention of STI's, recycled crafts and trash management. Through programmed activities and informal peer interaction, these adolescents will practice their leadership and teamwork skills, while increasing their self-esteem and ability to design small projects in environmental management and sexual health, for replication in their own communities.

Camp ALMA 2013 will be held at the EcoCenter of a local NGO and Peace Corps counterpart organization dedicated to promoting sustainable farming techniques, community-based environmental education, and healthy eating habits. We are lucky to have the support of this NGO's staff and other local Peruvian professionals who will contribute to mentoring this promising group of adolescents in "Peace of Mind, Body, and Environment". The camp presents a rigorous schedule with activity-packed days, but PCVs always find that the campers create strong bonds among each other and leave energized to lead small projects of their own.

Camp ALMA gives Peruvian youth a unique opportunity to learn about environmental and health topics that are rarely learned in their communities. Volunteers have succeeded in securing over 40% of the expenses from local Peruvian institutions. We request, with much gratitude, the remaining portion from our supporters at home.
