Map of ROMANIA

The goal of this project is to train 70 high school aged girls and boys from different parts of Romania to be leaders in their communities for gender equality and environmental protection. These camps two will give participants a space to learn and discuss gender, gender equality, discrimination, and sexism, among other important topics

Girls in particular face many challenges in exploring and developing their identities and self esteem, especially during high school. The girls participating in the GLOW Camp (Girls Leading Our World) will be able to explore these issues in an open forum where they can discuss with other girls their age and with female facilitators that have been through the same experiences. Boys will learn the importance of gender equality and the affects of sexism through TOBE Camp (Teaching Our Boys Excellence). Camp participants will also develop leadership, communication, decision making, and goal setting skills, as well as how to work as a team through the different workshops and their individual projects.

These two camps will provide a unique opportunity to bring together youth of the same age from the diverse regions of Romania in order to share their experiences and network. There are few opportunities to bring girls or boys together to discuss issues such as gender, self-identify, self-esteem, discrimination, leadership and conflict resolution. With the knowledge they have gained at this camp, the attendees will return to their communities as leaders and set a positive example for their peers and the larger community.
