Education Station

The summary below was provided by the Peace Corps Volunteer and the community administering this project.

My school and I have decided to request monetary donations through the Peace Corps Partnership Program in order to create and sustain an Education Station geared toward first through fourth graders. The main objectives of this project are to provide students with tutoring, equip parents with the skills to help their children study while promoting the importance of education at home and to obtain lasting, progressive relationships between students, parents and teachers. Improving these relationships will in turn create a more closely knit community. In order to encourage parental participation, the Education Station will be open on Saturdays, because Ukrainians are generally hardworking people with multiple jobs and very little free time during the work week.

Community contribution toward the Education Station will include each of the following: transportation of materials, television, printer/scanner, children's educational computer programming, electricity charges, paint, paint brushes, painting labor, electrician labor, light fixtures, light bulbs, curtains, nails, paintings/posters, teachers to provide tutoring and Education Station construction labor. The potential impact of the Education Station will greatly affect both students and parents. The community will become stronger, and the school will benefit academically from the implementation of the Education Station. Tutoring sessions will help to engage students at a younger age and encourage classroom participation. Parents will become more interactive in the students' lives. Developing these roles will help community members to focus on academics.
