ABOUT US

The Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) plays a key role in providing quality blood products for Service members and their families in both peace and war. As a joint operation among the military services (Army, Navy, Air Force), the ASBP has many components working together to collect, process, store, distribute, and transfuse blood worldwide.

This section describes the ASBP's blood distribution system, facilities, and the essential components needed to preserve a safe and secure blood supply.

ASBPO LEADERSHIP

The Armed Services Blood Program Office (ASBPO) manages the blood program for the Department of Defense (DoD). The Armed Services Blood Program was established more than 50 years ago as a joint field operating agency. The office is subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) through the Assistant Secretary of Defense [Health Affairs (HA)] and under the operational control of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

SERVICE BLOOD PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

The Army, Air Force, and Navy have Service Blood Program Offices (SBPOs) to manage their respective blood programs and Food and Drug Administration licenses.
