Safety & Occupational Health Specialist

RECRUITMENT ONLY

 

PURPOSE: To identify and evaluate moderately complex safety and occupational health risks and conduct investigations and inspections for compliance with regulatory and laboratory safety policies and procedures. To contribute to the effectiveness of the overall safety and occupational health program, the safety and health of employees, and the conservation of the grounds and facilities.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Identifies, evaluates and analyzes a variety of safety and occupational health risks and hazards in the facilities (laboratories, shops, classrooms, ranges, office space, etc.) and in the performance of related work to reduce or eliminate the potential for injury or property damage.

 

  • Conducts inspections and monitoring as necessary for compliance with regulatory requirements and laboratory safety policies and procedures.

 

  • Establishes work controls and develops guides or instructions. Provides training for employees in safe operating practices.

 

  • Coordinates activities with other Laboratory Division and FBI safety specialists to achieve compliance with the laboratory’s safety and occupational health program; and, to provide for the safety and health of employees, and the conservation of the grounds and facilities.

 

  • Provides technical advice to eliminate or control hazardous operations or conditions.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health or related discipline. Prefer a minimum of five (5) years recent experience in safety and occupational health. For three of the five (5) years immediately prior to applying for the specific contract position, the individual must have 1) resided in the United States; 2) worked for the United States overseas in a Federal or military capability; or 3) be a dependent of a Federal or military employee serving overseas. These individuals must, however, be United States citizens or Permanent Resident Aliens. Knowledge of and ability in implementing and administering programs involving safety and occupational health principles and regulations required. Must have ability to analyze methods, techniques, practices and standards applicable in a variety of environments to identify and evaluate various environmental risks and mishaps and to provide technical advice to eliminate or control hazardous operations or conditions. An active or reinstatable TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance is required for this position
