Colonel Michael K. Major is the vice commander of the 445th Airlift Wing, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. He is the second most senior officer responsible for the training and readiness of over 2000 assigned wing personnel in 19 units with an inventory of eight C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

Colonel Major graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1986, where he earned his commission through the ROTC program. He attended pilot training at Laughlin AFB, Texas, and was assigned to Griffiss AFB, N.Y., where he served in standardization and evaluation. His other active duty assignments included duties as a KC-10A instructor pilot; operations group executive officer; the Air Mobility Command Deputy Assistant for Senior Officer Matters and Chief of Rated Staff Assignments. Colonel Major left active duty in December 2000 and was assigned to the Air Force Reserve at Charleston Air Force Base. He is a command pilot with more than 6,200 hours. In his civilian capacity, he is an MD-11 First Officer with United Parcel Service.
