Sgt.Major Joseph Davenport III

Sergeant MajorDavenport was slated to Marine Corps Logistics Command (LOGCOM), Albany, GA on1 October 2012 as the senior enlisted advisor to the Commanding General LOGCOM.

Sergeant MajorDavenport enlisted in the Marine Corps on 12 December 1983 and graduatedrecruit training at Parris Island, SC in June 1984. Upon completion of hismilitary occupational specialty school, Private First Class Davenport wasassigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Quantico, VA in October 1984.

In June 1985, SergeantDavenport received orders to Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA to attendMarine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) Preparatory School,followed by assignment to the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit atTexas A&M University.  Following graduation June 1990, Staff SergeantDavenport was transferred to MWSS-172, MWSG-17, Okinawa, Japan, completing adeployment to Korea and participating in Team Spirit 90.

In June 1991, StaffSergeant Davenport transferred to First Combat Engineer Battalion, CampPendleton, CA, serving as the S-3 Battalion Training Chief and MarksmanshipRange Officer until he transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) inSeptember 1992.

In April 1993, StaffSergeant Davenport joined Company B, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion. Hecompleted the Winter Training Package at Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Center;deployed in support of Battle Griffin at Tromso, Norway;participated in a bilateral exchange training package with the Dutch RoyalMarines on the island of Aruba and was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.

1st Sergeant Davenportreported to Company D, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion January 1997,and upon completion of his tour, he was assigned as the Squadron SergeantMajor, VMFA-321, MAG-49, Detachment A, in May 2001.  He participated in RIMPAC 01, DESSEX 02, and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sergeant MajorDavenport was assigned as the Sergeant Major of MARFOR UNITAS, II MEF on 5 January 2004. The unit completed thefirst multi-national amphibious exercise on the South American continent, atAncon, Peru.

Sergeant MajorDavenport assumed the post as Sergeant Major, Combat Logistics Battalion 2, 2ndMarine Logistics Group on 15 August 2004, and deployed to Iraq in support of OperationIraqi Freedom 04-06, February 2005-March 2006.

Sergeant MajorDavenport was ordered to HQMC, Reserve Affairs Division on 11 September 2006,and deployed to Iraq in August 2009-August 2010 in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM as the SeniorEnlisted Advisor for the Multi-National Security Transition Command Iraq(MNSTC-I)/Iraq Security Assistance Mission (ISAM).  He later transferredto Iraq Training and Advisory Mission (ITAM) as part of the restructuring ofMNSTC-I under United States Forces-Iraq (USF-I).

In August 2010,Sergeant Major Davenport reported for duty as the Sergeant Major, Headquartersand Service Battalion, Henderson Hall and relinquished his post September 2012.

His personal awardsinclude the Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal (with gold star in lieu ofsecond award); Meritorious Service Medal; Navy and Marine Corps CommendationMedal (with gold star in lieu of second award) and the Navy and Marine CorpsAchievement Medal.
