Partnership Accomplishments

CSOSA's community partnership activities have resulted in the following accomplishments:

• Expanded the Faith Community Partnership to include mentoring of District of Columbia inmates housed at the Rivers Correctional Institution, the Federal Bureau of Prisons facility that houses the largest number of DC offenders. The program employs teleconferencing technology to allow the inmates to establish face-to-face mentoring relationships, connect mentors with others in their support network, and begin to put a personal reentry strategy in place several months prior to their actual release. To augment that program CSOSA uses teleconferencing to host Community Resource Day presentations to acquaint inmates with the DC programs and services available to them upon their release.
• Conducted specialized Mass Orientations for Spanish-speaking offenders, domestic violence offenders, and for offenders assigned to mental health supervision teams.
• Acted as fiscal agent for the Weed and Seed and Project Safe Neighborhoods initiatives.
• Conducted Quarterly Meetings with the Metropolitan Police Department, including each District Commander.
• Developed partnerships with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and community groups to improve offender re-entry.
• Continued to improve information gathering by developing relationships and collaborations with CSOSA's law enforcement partners, the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Pretrial Services Agency.
• Continued to collaborate with neighboring jurisdictions to enhance the Cross Borders Initiative.
• Continued to collaborate with the Child Support Enforcement Division to comply with the requirements of the Offender Self-Sufficiency Act.
• Reached out to several D.C. public schools and held informative meetings on sex offenders, including internet sites available for searching to determine if a school volunteer or potential employee was on a sex offender registry.
• Participated on joint warrant operations with the Metropolitan Police Department and US Marshals Service.
• Coordinated a number of community-based activities including several job fairs, a Domestic Violence Conference and a Mental Health Conference.
