EITC Awareness Day

The seventh annual EITC Awareness Day on January 25th was another success thanks to all of you who supported the Service's annual effort of reaching the millions of qualified workers to educate them about the EITC and options for free tax return preparation.

EITC is a boost to individual, families and the communities they live in. Yet, there are millions of workers who miss out each year and that is why this day is so important in reaching the one in five eligible workers who could but do not claim the credit.

Congressional representatives, state and local officials and community organizations along with W&I Commissioner Peggy Bogadi and Deputy Commissioner Debra Holland and IRS executives and employees leant their support to over 180 local media events nationwide promoting EITC Awareness. These efforts  reached over 1 million people with press, web and radio interviews.  This outreach was complemented by social media including Facebook, twitter, tumblr and more which proved to be explosive in reaching EITC eligible workers.

Again, we thank all those who helped to make this day a success and please continue to encourage eligible taxpayers to File, Claim and Get the Credit they Earned!
