A Very Special Citizenship Ceremony
Last week, 54 children representing 29 countries celebrated their U.S. citizenship during two special children's citizenship ceremonies in the Washington, DC area.
The first ceremony was held Thursday at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens while the second was held at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. on Friday.

What a meaningful day for those 54 children! God Bless You All!
Oh clowns, nice :-)
Well, which of those clowns is responsible for the backlog and processing hell thousands of legal immigrants are lost in for years now? Full of excitement I’m waiting each month for their latest show: The ever changing Visa Bulletin numbers with their mysteriously unpredictable super-magic-retrogressing priority dates. I so love this funhouse, I’m laughing myself to sleep with bitter tears....
Wish they had a psychic with the circus when I started the legal immigration process, she would have told me clearly how long it takes.
Maybe I should have opted for a fake marriage with the bearded lady that cleans the monkey cages, I would be running the show by now.
Look what a sad clown I became for doing it the right and legal way.
:-) LOL
That is really cool! It's nice to see children from so many nationalities become a part of the treasured American dream. Good luck!
Nobody should have to wait for 10 years to get a permanent resident status!!
Do you guys even realize that an EB3 India/China has to wait for 10 years @ the SAME JOB to get a green card!!
You guys really have to fix your system! USCIS, if you really want to help, put a system where atleast the people who have I 140 filed can actually have more freedom to move around.
AC21 is like a Catch 22. What use is it if you never make the prioirty dates current?
One last question..does USCIS really think EB applicants are dumb?
People,
I think you are unhappy with your life if all you can do is to post negative comments on here. Change your attitude and outlook on life and things will get better. Just be happy for these children who were able to attend this event!
Special note to Shiram: Dude, you need to take a chill pill. I am surprised they've allowed you to stay here for 10 years! Remember that the best things come to the ones who wait.
I am a permanent resident of the United States and I think this is one of the BEST benefits (after U.S. citizenship, of course) you can ever have in your life.
Note to USCIS Staff: Keep up the good work! You have BIG shoes to fill!!
RE: "..Remember that the best things come to the ones who wait..".
Well, I've never considered death to be one of the best things, but it seems that the USCIS is trying to make us feel that way by its EB3 VB dates for real.
I dont think its about negativity. People are just upset at having to wait so long to immigrate legally. And the problems are because the laws are antiquated.
Having a benefit tied to a job will always lead to exploitation of the worker. Not just the Foreign worker, but also the American worker.
Because the foriegn worker will be willing to work at a lower wage if there is the added benefit of getting a green card tied to the job. This artificially depresses the wages of American Workers as well.
The solution is to let the market absorb the workers depending on skill. Reducing the backlog will help in this regard.
This is a great visual of the multiculturalism that make the United States so great. I think it is important for the public to see the positive images of immigration.
It is very nice to see this "Photo Opportunity".
If I would create a website with real immigrant stories I think USCIS would censor and shut it down.
While everyone is talking things that do not make sense maybe they should start thinking about immigrants as humans first and not some type of aliens who are obsessed to take care of elderly people that walk with full diapers or to drive trucks or to wash dishes or clean floors in supermarkets.
Jobs... what jobs? Please tell me who is hiring? Do you people are so stupid and thing that if U.S. Citizens can not find a job some migrant from Mexico will jump across the border with few pounds of coca and become manager at your local Apple Bee's restaurant?
In my country kids used to read books about Winnetou when they were kids (Winnetou is a fictional Native American hero of several novels written by Karl May) and were not afraid to abandon everything for something unknown when they became adults.
I always wanted to live in United States of America and now sometimes I wonder if I wasted almost 20 years of my life. Am I Lithuanian immigrant or some kind of new generation Rosa Parks.
Why Rosa Parks? ... because after 17 years I can not even obtain Indiana Drivers License.
I own a house... 3 vehicles... pay taxes and even still think that one day I will get my visa number.
The only problem is everyone is moving ahead... buying green cards ... working illegal jobs and I am still waiting... 17 years.
While USCIS website is new... ideology remains old.
I think we need museum so rich parents one day can bring children and show this photo of lucky 54 children.
Hello , I just read Mr. Nerijus comment and I got to disagree with him. I am also immigrant, but not same like Mr. Nerijus. I am a Legal immigrant and I am against any Amnesty for Illegal immigrants. Why amnesty for them ? We who are here legal, we had to following US laws, INS rules, forms , pay fees, proof our identity and so.... And what the Illegal Aliens do? They don't care about immigration laws and they lie everywhere. This is why I don't like see any benefits for them in future. Carol
dieses fest war sicher eine schöne Überraschung für die Kinder und zeigt das ausländische Kinder auch wirklich intigriert werden.Congratulations says Novoline
Great news! Lucky those children to be a part of that celebration. Pretty much sure that would a meaningful day for them.
Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed your most recent post. I think you should post more often, you obviously have natural ability for blogging!
Why would we give amnesty for illegal immigrants? I have many friends who are here legally and went through the immigration process like it was originally designed. Anyone here illegally doesn't care about the system, so why give them the benefits that we all end up paying for them?
God bless for the act those 54 children will never forget, If I am reading this article this is legal citizenship not a hand out...
Its great that these 54 children from so many different backgounds and cultures can come together as one group in such a citizenship cermony; what a great occasion for the kids! Peace to you all!
That is a good story to read...I`m happy for these children who were able to attend this event!
This is a wonderful event for the children and My hats off to the organizers.
This is a great visual of the multiculturalism that make the United States so great. I think it is important for the public to see the positive images of immigration.
Great event for kids. Thank you all and God Bless you!
The children are uniting the world despite their differences.
I am ecstatic for those children, it is always easy to get angry at illegal immigrants and the news that you watch on Television, but when it comes to innocent children my hats off to you for a wonderful job
Great article very informative thanks for posting
Very funny - I especially love the clown costume! All that's missing is a good tarot card reader or psychic to make the party complete.
Yes nice article, good for the children and let the adults deal with the politics..
May God bless all the children have a good environment to grow and the children be a blessing for other people.
it such a heart cheer to see that children of different backgrounds could get together for the cause of America. If only the adults could do the same.
So special.. great to see these people being celebrated too :)
This must be a great day for 54 children who got the citizenship. Even i feel they can now live their American Dream.
Well -- at least it seems the kids had fun despite the up and down comments here.
Cheers for the kids! Forget illegal immigrants and all that stuff, kids are innocent victims of the deeds (or misdeeds) of their parents.
That's wonderful that those children get citizenship. I'm truly happy for them and wish them all the best!
This should be a nice unforgettable occasion for these kids.
It's wonderful to see those children being given their U.S. citizenship. I hope they grow up well and become productive to our society. Good luck, kids!
How wonderful! Must have been a really good experience! :-)
Love to see good events for kids..
Special day for the 54 children and the multicultural United States of America. As there are always two sides to each story and immigration is not excluded from a lot of unhappy and complaining people, think for a moment how lucky you are that you live in US even if you are still waiting to be approved.
As a 3rd generation American myself and someone who works with many immigrants, I have mixed emotions about the whole immigration issue. On one hand I think people should have the opportunity to live free and better their situation. On the other, we have laws in place to regulate the immigration and naturalization process.
Perhaps one way to help the problem would be to adopt a National Sales Tax or some sort of "Fair Tax" plan. This would amswer many of the complaints that seem to keep arising about the underground economy that exists among the illegal immigrant population.
I'm so happy those children were able to attend the event. What a blessing.
Reading this article brought back memories of when my adopted children from Russia attended just such a ceremony. It was a very moving event for my family, I am sure this ceremony brought much joy to those who attended!
I thing its nice to see that good side of imagration, cause all the news ever shows is the dark side of things.
I am glad to see these young children becoming a part of America. I think it is the youth that can uplift a nation and considering the situation in our country. I believe we hold their future in our hand and we should give them the best teachings
That looks so nice!
Those are 54 children that dont have to wait a long time to be granted there citizenship.
Kudos for the people behind this event.
I believe that this 54 children will be forever be grateful, as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that have been serve to them in a silver platter
54 kids that may not have a home if not for immigration. Do we need reform? Yes, but at what cost. The big question for me personally is should a child born here to an illegal alien be granted citizenship status. I struggle with this in my head.
I don't agree with posting comments based on your frustration people. This article is talking about children, and we should be happy that they were able to find a good life in the great country. God bless them, I am happy for them!
And it was awsome! God bless all the kids in the world!!
It must be a nice experience for these kids to get the citizenship of US. I am happy for them. They can definitely live their American Dream.
That was a nice gift for these 54 kids who got their citizenship. Im sure they wont forget that moment. Way to go kids!
The strength of a nation is in its people (adapted from someone I can't remember right now), and by granting these kids their US citizenship, we are looking at a bright future where everyone is given equal opportunity.
This is so moving; I hope we'd get better soon and these kids would happily build even greater America.
This must have been a great celebration for the children, a gift hey will always remember how they became US citizens. Great initiative.
God bless the children.
Definitely a very interesting event, made me curious, maybe I can see his video if you upload it on this blog. Thanks.

So wonderful and informative posting! Indeed, It was an unforgettable experience.
It was a memorable celebration for these children and their families, great initiative.
I love this article. Awarding citizenship to children and given them a home is one of the most noble thing U.S.A. can do. I hope in the future that this children would realize how lucky they are and would be able to be a good model citizen. That the U.S. can be proud off.
Its awesome to see this, I was a immigrant child. Just like the girl in the picture.
I didn't get a big award ceremony like that though. Like the clown.
Citizenship means being a member of and supporting one's community and country.- Happy for this kids having a citizenship.
I'm happy for the kids because they are now a truly a citizen in their country. As they grow older, they will not encounter problems about illegal aliens.
Yes this is so good. Im so happy about the kids. In times like these though they need it. Otherwise they might be getting a free ticket.
What a great story. It really put a smile on my face. We need more of this amidst all of the negative info about our gov't that we have been receiving lately. I work at a federal prison camp where understandably things are great all the time. Thus, I really appreciate any good news.
Congratulations to the 50 plus children and their new citizenship. I am pleased that the government is making further progress in these aspects!
It's like the story of America in miniature: Divesity and 54 fresh starts. How beautiful!
That's sweet! I saw a show where a woman talked about how proud she was to have gotten her citizenship. It meant the world to her. She also commented on how it seemed like it is not that important to many people these days. I'm glad to find these 54 kids are taking it seriously and are proud to be a part of this great nation!
This is one fine cause. Awarding children this benefit is great. I hope that they grow up to be a very productive citizen.
Bottom line I am happy for this kids :D
Congratulations to the 50 plus children and their new citizenship. The Government have extended a great privilege to them. Hope they grow up to be good and responsible citizen and contribute to society.

I'm so happy for the kids. :)
I am always happy to see when kids become full pledge citizens. It gives them so much power to belong to a Country that allows them to be anything they want to be.
That's terrific for those kids. Anyone know what kind of process they go through to become citizens? I mean I have a friend from Morocco and he had to go through a class and pass a test, do we do the same thing for children?
Looks like a lot of fun! Just as one of the other commenters wrote, all you need is a Tarot reader and you're laughing!
This is a great story and a wonderful event for these children!
Why don't these stories get more play when it comes to this immigration debate. It seems that the youth angle is a sure winner in breaking down peoples' prejudices.
This is a very helpful post. thank you very much for sharing this informative blog post. keep up the good work.
This is one accomplished cause. Awarding accouchement this account is great. I achievement that they abound up to be a actual advantageous citizen.
Nice to see people are really caring about and giving you lots of attention from a warm and loving community.
