The City of Pembroke Pines recently renamed NW 129th Ave to PFC Juan Sebastian Restrepo Ave. Army PFC Restrepo was a resident of Pembroke Pines and graduate from Flanagan High School. He was killed in Afghanistan in 2007 while serving as a medic.
We remember PFC Restrepo and honor his service.

Do you have unused or expired prescription drugs? The Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Take-Back Day is intended to provide a setting for individuals to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous. No questions asked. Sites will accept tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms of unwanted medication. Personal information may b...e blacked out on prescription bottles, or medications may be emptied from the bottles into the bins provided at the events.
You can drop off your unused or expired prescriptions on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at one of the following South Florida locations:

Veterans Serving Veterans: Global Peer Specialist Celebration Day!
Miami VA Peer Support Specialists serve their fellow Veterans every day in the Miami VA Healthcare System and Broward Mental Health clinics as role models and sharing their personal recovery stories, showing that recovery from mental illness is possible.
They teach goal setting, problem solving, symptom management skills and a variety of recovery tools while empowering others by identifying their strengths, s...upports, resources and skills.
Perhaps most importantly, their commitment and service works to eliminate the stigma of mental illness and reaching out for the help our Veterans have earned.
October is National Dental Hygiene Month. Miami VA dental hygienists educate Veterans on ways to improve and maintain good oral health and support the research and administrative functions of the dental team.
Here are a few tips from our hygienists on how to keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy year round:
• Brush your teeth every day with a fluoride toothpaste...
• Clean between your teeth every day with floss or another type of between-the-teeth cleaner
• Snack smart – Eat several fresh fruits and vegetables each day and limit sugary snacks
• Avoid excessive of energy and sports drinks
• Don't smoke or chew tobacco
• See your dentist and dental hygienist regularly
