While the subprime loan crisis may have been the start of the decline in the housing market, all types of residential mortgages are now being affected. While Nebraska's housing market is stronger when compared to other parts of the country, there is still concern by many that the value of homes continues to decline and excess inventory remains on the market. Any proposal aimed at stabilizing the housing market should resist attempts to reward speculative buyers.
