BRAC Information

BRAC 2005 directed the realignment of the inpatient medical function of the 59th Medical Wing (Wilford Hall Medical Center) to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio to create the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). This deadline was met on Sept. 6, 2011, when the final relocated inpatient service opened at Brooke Army Medical Center. BAMC, the hospital, is now known as SAMMC. Brooke Army Medical Center now refers to the headquarters that oversees all Army clinics in San Antonio and the surrounding area. Wilford Hall Medical Center is now known as the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center.

SAMMC

SAMMC Progress SAMMC serves as a world class health science center for inpatient and ambulatory care, consisting of Graduate Medical Education (GME) & training, a Level 1 Trauma Center, and the only American Burn Association verified Burn Center within the DoD.

WHASC

WHMC is now an ambulatory surgical center with selected medical and surgical outpatient specialties and urgent care for trainees, servicing a large beneficiary and trainee population.

Ft. Sam Houston

Ft. Sam Houston hosts the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC). BAMC’s collection of clinics will provide medical support to the METC population, which includes primary care, dental, physical therapy, optometry, mental health and ancillary services.
