Washington, D.C. – On the heels of the President’s State of the Union address, Congressman Bera joined a bipartisan group of 32 freshman members in urging Congress and President Obama to address the fiscal issues the country faces. The group submitted a letter to leadership outlining the details of a statement of principles they agreed upon.
Earlier today the House Rules Committee blocked an amendment to H.R. 273 offered by Congressman Ami Bera that would freeze lawmakers pay through December 31, 2013, and protect public servants from bearing more of the burden of deficit reduction.
Congressman Ami Bera celebrated the Senate’s passage of S. 47 yesterday, a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Despite the bipartisan vote in the Senate, VAWA has been held up in the House of Representatives. Bera is a proud co-sponsor of HR 11, the House version of the Violence Against Women Act.
Earlier today Congressman Ami Bera urged members of Congress to be responsible, make good decisions, and not allow automatic across–the–board spending cuts to go into effect at the end of the month.
