Message from Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Edwin R. Nolan

Welcome to the U.S. Embassy The Hague’s Business pages.  Our trade and investment relationship with the Netherlands is simply one of the strongest we enjoy anywhere.  Recently ranked by Bloomberg as the #2 Best Business Destination in the World, the Netherlands is an outstanding target for U.S. business.  In fact, between 2000 and end 2010, the Netherlands was the number one destination in the world for U.S. direct investment.

In the meantime, the Netherlands is the number three foreign investor in the United States.  These strong relations are also reflected in our exports to the Netherlands, and our trade surplus with the Netherlands is the largest we enjoy anywhere in the world.

With Europe’s largest port (Rotterdam), and fourth largest airport (Schiphol), the Netherlands’ links to the rest of Europe make it a superior location from which to base operations.  2,100 American companies are located in the Netherlands with a workforce of over 180,000.  Dutch investment and trade with the U.S. supported well over 624,000 American jobs in 2011.

In short, it is hard to name a country anywhere in the world where American companies are more welcome, have been more successful, or have better prospects for success than the Netherlands.
